The Institute of Fire Engineers has a number of technical committees and task groups that take part in developing engineering guides, standards, and other technical initiatives of the Institution. NZ Branch members represent the views of the membership and help to shape the future of Fire Engineering within New Zealand and internationally via a number of representative positions and by taking part in consultation with in various technical forums.

The Fire Program was released at the end of July 2015. The projects in the program are based on an analysis of the issues stakeholders identified in their feedback on the 2012 regulatory changes

IFE Technical Strategy and Advisory Group (TSAG) co-ordinates the activities of Special Interest Groups (SIGs), members representing the IFE on external technical bodies, response by the IFE to consultations on proposed regulatory changes, statutory guidance, standards and codes of practice etc, and reviews of articles submitted for publication in International Fire Professional. Ed Claridge is a member of the TSAG representing the NZ Branch.
